Excerpt: 

Tess stared at the empty doorway in stunned silence, listening to the sound of his retreating footsteps. When the kitchen door shut, she walked to the window. By the light of the moon, she saw Daniel standing beside his horse, his head pressed against its neck. She could feel his pain like a live thing inside her, tearing at her heart.

He stood there a long time before he mounted his horse and rode away. When he did, she knew his decision was made. He was a man of pride and integrity. He thought he was doing the right thing, the noble thing. Nothing she could say would change his mind.

She squared her shoulders and turned away from the window. If she wanted to marry again, she would have to look beyond Daniel for a husband. She thought of Nathan, picturing his good looks and warm smile. He was strong and kind, and he seemed to care about her. The knowledge should have cheered her, but it didn’t. Tears clogged her throat as she climbed the stairs to her lonely bed. Daniel was the man she wanted. Daniel was the man she loved.

"You'd be in our room. The 'our' would include you," Adam told him. "I'll steal your t-shirts to wear to bed, and we'll share the task of warming Kit's cold toes every night. We'll have amazing sex when we're all in the mood together. We'll have nearly as amazing sex in pairs if the third is in the mood to watch or sleep. There won't be favorites, but, because we've been together so long, Kit and I might slip up there on occasion. You'll have to be patient with us, Gav."

"And once our open relationship includes you," Kit said, "it turns into a closed one. We don't cheat or lie, and we tell each other if our needs change."

"I don't know." Gav didn't look past his hands at either of them as he spoke. "I'll think about it. There's nothing in there I don't think I can do, I just…I need to think."

Mike moved the gun a few inches to the right and shot a warning hole in the blanket beside her. “I promise the next one will hit you. You won’t die, but you’ll wish you did.” He moved in closer and yanked her head back by her hair. “I am going to have you, with or without a bullet wound. Your choice. Now,” he shouted. “Take off your clothes.”

Saying one last prayer, Kari used the distraction of removing her shirt to get the gun out from under Brandon. With it hidden up her sleeve, she paused. The asshole actually had an erection. “You’re wrong Mike. Her eyes locked on his seconds before she pulled the trigger.

Hiding in the shadows, he stood watching her. It would be impossible for her to detect his presence. He was always very careful. Cocking his head, he scrutinized every aspect of her appearance and nodded in approval. There was something beautiful about her and the way she handled herself.
